We are long-time U2 fans who also belong to a 3D virtual world called “Second Life®”. In that world we are a group of role-players who go by the name of “U2 in SL”. U2inSL stands for "U2 in Simulated Lives". We have created avatar character likenesses of Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr, and Adam Clayton. We believe we’re U2’s FIRST virtual band! Through streaming music technology in the 3D virtual world of Second Life®, from time to time, we hold concerts and gigs for the entire SL® community. We role-play the real world band using custom made avatars, animations and concert set (see pictures!). We do this for fun but, most importantly, to raise awareness of the various causes supported by the real world band—causes such as ONE.ORG, DATA.ORG, AFRICANWELLFUND.ORG, and MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY.ORG. We make NO money on this endeavor. We look at ourselves as the first (or one of the first) virtual bands to exist in virtual worlds and simulated lives.   The virtual 3D world of Second Life® allows for boundless ways of creativity. Second Life® is all about giving people the tools to be and express themselves virtually. Being the HUGE long-time U2 fans that we are, we have created the avatars as well as concert set complete with instruments, lights, backdrops. We also have an inworld "U2 in SL" fan group which anyone can join.
